Remember then as a little kid, about 6 or 8 yrs old. You waited until you heard the person answer at the other end and could get about 1-2 seconds before you had to push A to continue the call.
Always used to check button B when passing a call box in case someone had forgotten to get their balance back (you could feed it with coins and get back what you didn't use).
