Black Elephant

Post by ScottD »

Just taken part in an IIRSM seminar where the phrase "Black Elephant" was used. It is used to describe a huge risk in the organisation, which everyone knows exists, but no one wants to mention it or raise the subject as it could be a career threatening step. It is an amalgamation of black swan event and the elephant in the room.

How many of us have come across this type of thing in the past or present?

Not heard of it but very much like it as it has a place
For brilliance and, at the same time, for consistency of achievement, for activity in philanthropic enterprise, for astuteness of management and for general alertness, the superiors of Aston Villa cannot be found
