Smoking & Vaping

Post by Siblo »

Hi Guys,

I know this has been covered but I'm damned if I can find it.

Are there recommended distances from a smoking area to an entrance or doorway, I thought there was but cant find info.

Also, has anyone done a new/recent policy or guidance on vaping in the workplace.

Thanks Friday People

It is up to you to set the distances you want to set that suits your business and your employees.

I have worked on oil refineries where there is no smoking on site and people need to travel half a mile to reach what the site state is a safe area for smokers.
Offshore it is only in smoking shacks away from others but on some you can still smell the stuff.
NHS is smoke free on most sites -

So you decide where they are allowed to smoke - and that includes vaping which I think is maybe worse with the clouds of whatever some exhale!

When it comes to smoking areas near entrances, it's generally suggested to keep a distance of about 25 feet to reduce exposure to secondhand smoke. As for vaping at work, it's becoming a hot topic. Many places are updating their policies to include rules on vaping, often aligning them with smoking regulations.

There are more big changes coming into play over the next few years which will see a ban on disposable vapes and perhaps more importantly, it will become illegal to sell tobacco products to anyone born on or after 1 January 2009 which means that children turning 15 this year or younger can never legally be sold tobacco.

See https://www.gov.uk/government/news/disp ... ens-health for more details and info.
