RIDDOR

Post by markholly »

Hello,

I was wondering if someone has an answer to my question:

A member of staff has aggravated an old injury in their shoulder resulting on them having time off work. Would this have to be reported to RIDDOR as it is an old injury that has caused her to take time off ?

A door was sticking and they used a shoulder to nudge it open.

Any help would be great :D

Hi Mark. Forgetting about the old injury, this was an injury which occurred at work, so I would say reportable.

It would also keep you right to report it in case the aggravated old injury escalates and claims, or even more time off work ensued.

I do wonder why on earth would they use their injured shoulder to nudge open a sticking door! Where was their duty of care to themselves!

I would agree - report it and carry out internal investigation including interviewing the injured person because as Alexis states they also have a duty of care to look after themselves and report discrepancies.

Also worth sharing the experience with the rest of the team emphasising the need to report or record things that are not working properly.

And get that door sorted right away.

Hi,

We have daily checks on all of the fire doors and upon review nothing has ever been mentioned about the door sticking, it was sorted straight away once it was reported.

Thanks for your help on this one -

Mark .cheers
