HSE AED training
Hi all
Just a quick one, an anyone point me to the actual news item/info from HSE where they say that AED (Defibs) MUST be included in First aid training?
I can find lots of info from training companies saying that this is changed but nothing on HSE site
Thanks

Re: HSE AED training
I can't see anything in the ACOP which specifically states a requirement for AED training, however it does say:
Appropriate first aid for a heart attack could include use of an AED.On completion of training successful candidates should be able to recognise the presence of major illness (including heart attack, stroke,
epilepsy, asthma, diabetes) and provide appropriate first aid.

Re: HSE AED training
Hi Penfold
It was published in a notification to Training Companies last summer and as an HSE e-bulletin but the HSE have not updated their website!!
I can't upload a .eml file here so here's the relevant part You can't access old e-bulletins on their website!
For EFAW/FAW use, since the HSE have not changed any other requirements, it is generally being included as a 'Familiarisation' not Training.
There are still actual AED Training Courses available; this content in the FAW/EFAW is literally a few slides and a demonstration for most providers.
Just to give a bit of confidence.
For example, from the Awarding Body I use, Module/Session 9 Resuscitation, used to be 45 minutes.
That Session now included AED use, ... the timing is still 45 minutes!

Re: HSE AED training
Thanks Alexis, strange how their website still doesn't mention anything about this!

Re: HSE AED training
I thought so too Penners considering it clearly says,
"The revision will require all workplace first aiders to be trained in the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) from the 31 December 2016, as the Resuscitation Council UK guidelines now state that the management of a casualty requiring CPR is to request an AED."

Re: HSE AED training
Well done Alexis.
It's strange how it's impossible to find historic e-bulletins via their website.
I get loads of them and just keep the ones that might be of use.
But sometimes you feel the need to look for something you might not have kept!
But as to the HSE not having updated their info, it is a pretty dire situation. Probably on someone's 'to do' list and they haven't!

lets use that as an excuse if we ever get a visit and some findings from their inspectors !bernicarey wrote: ↑Wed Feb 15, 2017 2:03 pm Well done Alexis.
