Hi All,

I have been tasked with looking into the safety aspects of the placing, use of and servicing of our standby diesel generator. Has anybody and RA & SSW, which might give me a heads up.

millpond,
Just general factors/points to be considered:
- Access controlled area,
- No flammable materials,
- In-door/out-door & the exhaust positioning (away from flammable & from ventilation air in-take points),
- Fuel/fire/spill hazard;
- Noise;
- Air Quality (emission);
- Chemicals (coolant for example);
- AC & DC power Hazards;
- Hazards associated with maintenance environment (dust, MH, slip .. etc);
- Operation- is automatic or manual & the possible fialure impact

The size of the unit & the purpose of it also affecting your RA & SSW (for example in-case of big units there is a need for main fuel tank that feeds unit tank - also if the unit is a standby system to power another critical system in-case of power failure)

Hop this helps
