Not a confined space.
Don't worry about the pregnant woman. Just look at it that her action has highlighed some part of H&S which needed changing.
And just make the lock openable from the inside. £50 for a lock and problem solved.

Re: Does anyone use an I Pad ??
I think with most things apple produce they are made from a design technology view point not from a functional view point that's why issues of batteries only lasting in Iphones for 8 hours. I've got an Itouch and within a year they have had to replace it due to issues with the batteries not holding...

Re: Does anyone use an I Pad ??
iPad 2 is rumoured to be getting announced not long into the new year. As for using one, at the moment its an (expensive) toy work-wise but not a lot more. To be truly useful it needs to be as stand-alone as a laptop, running office (most companies still use M$ sadly), with USB and projector connect...

Sadly, caught out by the Workplace regs!Reddwarf wrote: I would have thought it was more a HR issues then H&S.

As for the wooly hat - I decided to use the good-old heirarchy of controls and rather than reaching for PPE addressed the issue at source and banned home working. That sorted it.

Re: Home heating
Those who work from home routinely either for part or all of their working time. I have someone who works from home sometimes and now wants me to pay towards his central heating bill as it is a bit chilly. I said no for the same reasons you gave but to be sure did some digging and it doesn't seem to...

Re: Home heating
The initial comment from the Federation of Small Business legal help providers is that the employer could be required to meet the heating costs for an employee working at home. I'm waiting for a more firm response. Wish I'd never asked now.

Re: Home heating
I am waiting for a call back this afternoon from a legal bod to see how they think the requirements for an employer to heat a home 'workplace' would apply.

Re: Home heating
I agree and have said no to my chap who asked about it, but I'm not entirely sure it couldn't be argued that the heated workplace part of the Workplace Regs. can be extended to cover people who routinely work from home as it is their regular place where they work. I'm hoping the definitive legal ans...

Home heating
Given an increasing number of people are skiving off, sorry, I mean ' have flexible working and are working from home', does anyone know who is responsible for the costs of heating their houses when they are working from home / watching Loose Women? If the employer has to provide a reasonably heated...

Re: Driving to and from work.
I would, but it's different with a mate than work, and necessarily so. We cannot control people's behaviour outside the factory gate / offshore rig car park and shouldn't try to - that's intruding into personal life and extending workplace H&S into that is something we should avoid. We have no c...

Re: Driving to and from work.
But this is not a moral responsibility the employer has a business getting into. There has long been an ongoing mission-creep in workplace health and safety and it needs to stay focused on where it is supposed to be - work only. There is no moral responsibility for people outside work. Within the H&...
