Re: Monday - 04 December 2023

Cold and dark and already been up working 2 hours (Time differences suck  ) ../. You are working from home?😳😳😳 I worked in Cyprus for a while. The IT there was awful, but the IT desk was in London and it didn't open until 11am our time. So annoying to lose that time 🙄 I am off on a work trip i...

Re: Refuge points / Temporary waiting spaces

It seems to be the same, but a Scottish v the rest of us thing (like battered Mars bars)

'Refuge' south of the border
Temporary Waiting Spaces' north of the border

Frankly neither explain their use in terms of they are designed for emergencies

Re: Home workers (home contract) - does a company need to supply a First aid kit?

Whilst I am sure the advice and recommendations here are sound legally and in line with appropriate guidance etc, I can't help thinking that as you can buy a domestic first aid kit for around £10 - and to keep it in date, perhaps it needs to replacing it every 4 years or so - for the cost of £2.50 a...

Re: Portable Heaters

IMHO, it definitely oil filled that are 'safer' than convector - but the former are unpopular as they seem slow to operate. But as you imply in your post, its a bit more complicated than just considering the heating appliance used As always there's the human element that is the most risky part. Conn...

Re: Vents above doors to domestic electric cupboards

I think the first thing is to establish what role the vent is playing The gas and electricity regs change so often, I really don't know without researching more. Could there be another reason for the vent? Prevention of mould etc???? I will be interested if anyone knows why the vents are there But I...

Re: Wednesday - 15 November 2023

Wow- not a job to look forward to Willpool. Good luck .salut I have driven for 90 mins in a hideous traffic jam to a 8.30 meeting to get a call at 8.45 'sorry I will be late, my dog was poorly in the night'. She's clearly just got out of bed So I am hanging about until 10.15 - another 90 mins - for ...

Re: Disability: Equality Act 2010

I am also not an expert in the EA but in relation to fire escapes, there is no need to make them accessible in terms of everyone being able to use them independently As long as staff who require assistance have a PEEP and perhaps relevant equipment or staff or procedures to help them in an emergency...

Re: P50 Fire Extinguishers

In my last role, I wanted to roll P50s out across the estate but was a bit concerned about using innovative fire safety equipment that turns out not as advertised after a bruising reputational encounter I experienced. I recommended the installation of an expensive video smoke detection system which ...
