Re: Provision of Fire Safety Information

It's really up to you to decide in your FRA and justify what interval you use for refresher training. Did you have such a recommendation in the FRA when the enforcing officer visited or have they suggested this because you did not have anything? Was this a Fire Officer or the LA? Personally i have a...

Re: Provision of Fire Safety Information

What business are you in? Every 3 months does seem a bit harsh unless you are in some high hazard industry. I imagine the more frequent interval for night staff is because you have lower levels of supervision and senior management on site at night and so night staff may need to carry out tasks (like...

Re: CE Marking

HSE has some pretty clear guidance on refurbishment of machinery and the first step is to assess to determine how significant the change is. See here http://www.hse.gov.uk/work-equipment-machinery/refurbished-modified-machinery.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; And for the...

Re: Refund of Pay

I think you have confused this with a similar situation in which a reclaim of wages IS possible. That situation is as follows: Employee suffers an injury outside working hours - e.g RTA Employee puts in claim against third party for said injury - e.g. against the other driver if it is a road traffic...

Re: Health and safety subscription services

Waste of money all of them. ;)

Go for the HSE website. Now that documents from HSE Books are free to download it's hard to see why you'd need anything further to be honest.

Re: Can you train

PTLLS provides basic teaching theory and requires students to deliver a 15 minute "microteach" and observe cohorts doing the same. CTLLS includes deeper theory and requires lesson planning and preparation for at least 30 hours teaching! So even with PTLLS, I wouldn't consider myself to be...

Re: What did the Health and Safety Consultants ever do for u

Some of you have obviously had some bad experience with consultants! Problem is there are many of the poor consultants about with good ones being few and far between. What a huge sweeping statement! "many" poor ones and "few" good ones? What evidence do you have for this and have...

Re: Fire Regulations, slightly confused!

I would recommend that you go back to whoever did your fire risk assessment and put this question to them. It's difficult for others who have not seen the premises to comment with any authority. If I were the assessor I would be glad to provide clarification - it should be part of their service. Hea...

Don't worry Berni - you don't HAVE to tell us what you had for breakfast if you don't want to! ;) Seriously though I found Twitter very useful the day the Lofstedt report came out - also to find out what was actually going on during the Summer riots when I was staying in a hotel half a mile away fro...

Keith - talk to your insurers. Ours used to insist on every 5 years, but it depends what type of premises you have (office, warehouse, factory etc)

Re: CE requirements on machinery built in house

However daft it may seem to have to CE mark your own in-house built stuff the answer is yes you do have to. I linked to this resource on my answer in the thread on the "other forum" - EC Directive site and the full guidance (several hundred pages but easily navigated because it has a compr...

If people use the Intranet then stick with a virtual noticeboard? Much easier to update it!
