Just for clarity.
Was the alarm system in the ancillary offices and workrooms interlinked with the 3 separate units in the main hangar hall?.
If not then that would mean that there were two separate fire alarm systems in use within the one building.

Re: Battery operated alarms
The description of the alarm in the link says that it "is designed for emergency situations ........ For use in temporary buildings, premises under construction and camp sites". In this type of 'temporary' use, the longevity of the battery (i.e. the number of years it will last) is not so ...

I agree with everything you are saying.
But if that is the worst you are finding then you are not looking hard enough.

Re: Xmas Fire Safety in Retail (My Boring Day at the Shops)
If I am correct, a Redlam Bolt will only work on a single door, or on a double set of doors that has one fixed leaf. Whilst I agree that it is not necessary on this set of double doors, I would be of the view that if 100+ punters charge at these doors, then they will open via the pads and the Redlam...

Re: Flat door self-closer + poor mobility
What about one of these:- https://www.firedoorcontrols.co.uk/fire-door-closers/swing-free-solutions/ "A swing free door closer enables a door to operate without any resistance, just like a door without a door closer. This allows the door to be left in any position, such as ajar if preferred. On...

Re: Storage under stairs
I have seen this so many times. For the first few weeks everything is kept orderly. Then someone over orders a few extra boxes of paper cups or a few rolls of grease proof paper. The storage lockers are already full so we'll just set them on the top of the lockers for now. Next thing you know is you...

Re: Smoke detectors - mains wired vs. long-life batteries
I would always go with a mains wired system myself. But even a mains wired systems would require a battery backup in case of mains failure. But I can't necessarily see a problem with long-life batteries. I'm not sure what the limitations are of using long-life batteries. You would have to check for ...

Re: Electric meter enclosure
baywaves I wasn't in 100% agreement because you thought the main supply head/fuses were old and redundant and should be removed, which is the one section of your entire post that I quoted. Looking at baywaves comments, they're pretty sound, although I'm not 100% in agreement. I would also be asking ...

Re: Electric meter enclosure
I did think of that early on when it was first posted, but then I discounted it as it probably wouldn't help much. The opening Arc of the door is still going to cause issues, possibly even more so... .scratch I'm wondering if we're all thinking a bit 'in the box' here. Trying to keep easy access. T...

Re: Electric meter enclosure
That's a bit of an eyesore to say the least. But just of the top of my head and looking at that, it would be my view that the priority would be to either 'remove' or 'contain' any source of a fire in that communal hallway. Removal does not look like an option (but I don't know that for definite and ...

Re: Throw out escape ladder
There are absolutely 'no' circumstances (in my opinion) which would justify a throw out ladder in this day and age, other than for home use perhaps. I tried one of these a few years back because someone asked me for advice because they were considering using one in a situation similar to what you su...

Re: Chair lift being removed on the grounds of safety?
Another point to consider is, does the stair lift have an independent emergency power supply to it. Then in the event of a fire which for example trips the main fuse for the building, would the stair lift continue to work and get your wife down to safety. The last thing you would want is everybody r...
