It would seem difficult to measure even if there was a figure. Ultimately is it causing a H&S issue (slip, trips and falls) if it is then it isn't right especially given it is a residential care home. has anyone tried some sink unblock-er chemical?

Re: Welfare van electrical appliances testing
It's portable because it could be picked up and moved might need unbolting first, being in a van makes it even more portable:-) i would say annual checks would be the sensible approach if you find yourself in a grey area when it comes to H&S then take the reasonable approach it wouldn't be arduo...

Keith It was someone else that mentioned compensation claims not the original poster. But you have to be worried about statements like these are not what you would call life changing accidents , but run of the mill everyday occurances Ultimately i would draw up a list of what responsibility they wou...

Re: Payments to First Aiders - how much?
I do wonder if you could inforce it by making it mandatory on peoples job description since in certain buildings I am really struggaling to get people to volunteer. i guess this is something to raise with HR on future job postings. I guess ultimately a company could make it part of the supervisors ...

Re: Payments to First Aiders - how much?
David maybe you could do a short presentation to some likely candidates on the benefits of being a first aider or get your current first aiders to do some recruiting for you. Surely 4-5 days off work has got to be incentive enough!!! One question are you a first aider? maybe that's part of the probl...

Re: Children evacuated in underwear in fire drill
Common sense clearly didn't play a part on that day. or maybe it would be impossible to plan in around when children aren't getting changed who's to say that they were getting changes later or earlier than normal. But this instance has clearly shown that they need to consider children who may not be...

Re: Fire Alarm panel & call point requirements
stating that the current equipment does not meet the current standard i don't think it would be to hard to see why a 20yr old fire alarm panel wouldn't meet modern standards, so to me what they said would be correct BUT this doesn't mean it would be ineffective in giving means of warning. the compa...

Re: Fire Alarm panel & call point requirements
As is often said on the forum you need to give more information on the size of the premises and numbers working their. I guess an alarm panel being 20yrs old means that it would be difficult to maintain and may not meet current standards. But ultimately you need means of giving warning does it do th...
