Hi Alexis,
Thanks for your response. I think NCRQ will be my next step, to be honest.
Sounds like a great qualification, in a format that engages the student.
Regards,
Terry.

Re: Are Fires a Near Miss?????
Completely agree that all of these events should be investigated. Siblo, we run a similar system in my current role. Each premises must report so many near misses, which we call “Safety Improvement Opportunities”, each month. This is a KPI and questions are asked if they’re not met. Additional train...

Re: NCFE IOSH Level 3 Certificate in Safety and Health for Business
I believe that the introduction of any new qualification and route to a career in safety can only be a good thing, as it increases variety and appeals to a wider audience. This is providing that standards are not lowered as a result, of course. I would however, disagree that the NEBOSH General Certi...

Re: HSE
The Health and Safety Executive is often held on a pedal stool by safety professionals across all industries and sectors.
I suppose anybody, and any organisation can make a mistake, but this is very disappointing indeed.

Re: Getting a job..
Hi Gary, A lot of facility management jobs quite often incorporate health and safety. My uncle currently works in one of these positions, and mine is almost the same, but flipped somewhat. Health and Safety Manager with facilities management and environmental responsibilities chucked in. It’s partly...

Re: Is this a serious cause for concern?
Hi Red, Firstly, a big welcome to the forum. There’s not much more I can add to the topic as I pretty much agree with all that has been said above. The school must have a way of reporting, logging and investigating incidents, just like any other business. I’d ask your head if Year to pass on your co...

Re: Exit sign needed?
I’d be inclined to agree with Messy, providing light levels were always sufficient, even in the even of a power failure, on a dark evening. If light levels are not always sufficient, I’d act with caution and fit some form of emergency light/illuminating fire exit sign. It all depends on the individu...

Re: Letters after my name
Hi PDH, As Wendolene quite rightly pointed out, all of the membership criteria is online via the IOSH website. I believe if you have passed a relevant level 3 safety qualification and have an appropriate level of experience, you may be approved for Technical membership (TechIOSH). You have to apply ...

Re: Part time work
Hi PDH, I have to agree with the above comment, Consultancies may prefer you to be on their books full time although freelance consultancy services are not uncommon. Have you ever thought about H&S training? Providing you have the right qualifications and experience, there is a lot of opportunit...

Hi Waterboy,
A good spot - lucky that it was a near miss and not an accident. At least now further control measures can be put in place before an injury is caused.
Regards,
Terry.

Re: Exit sign needed?
Hi Mark, I would have thought it still requires the 'running man sign' and adequate emergency lighting/illuminating sign, regardless of whether it has one exit/entry or not. If light levels were reduced and a fire caused an electrical failure, students and visitors would need to be able to clearly a...
