Re: Reporting injuries
We have several Temps working on a daily basis and I agree with above about treating them as you would full time employees. However, after a friend spoke with a HSE officer and I spoke to a recruitment consultant both said that it was up to the Agency to report any RIDDORs with their temp staff desp...

Re: Ladder Modification

Re: Ladder Modification
Thanks Zman Yes, modifying ladders was something that concerned me so I have decided not to weld or screw anything to them although I suppose it is still "modifying". I can hopefully use the thing that drops over the top rung (The operators generally only climb a max of 3 rungs so wont be ...

Re: Ladder Modification
That's excellent Madness Coincidentally I am working on the same sort of device too and just had a prototype made. It is made from steel though - similar to your design and it was going to be secured to the top rung with jubilee clips. However, I could possibly use a C section that could drop over t...

A Site I manage had the local FRS in and it went down well. Another excellent course held was Road Safety - If I recall it was similar organisation to the Speed Awareness where you can attend if you are just caught over the speed limit. A Road Police Officer attended with Driving simulator, beer gog...

Re: Office staff in the warehouse
My experience of this - if it is a designated walkway and nothing drives across it or can roll across it as mentioned above Employees were allowed to wear normal sturdy shoes (No open ones or stilletos and this rule was applicable for the ladies too) If they ventured off the designated walkway then ...

Re: Accident reporting forms
Hi Siblo My suggestion would be is what you are going to do - increasing the number of First Aid boxes and Accident Books in each Department or closer locations. I can't really see an issue - just ensure that each book is referenced differently "Book A Page 1" "Book 2 Page 1" etc...

And did they focus on anything specific such as COSHH or Legionella or was a it a general everything visit? Lastly, will you be getting a FFI bill?!!! If it was me I would be popping a vodka in the diet c...

Re: Working Full Time in H&S
As sharpc has mentioned - walkthroughs and safety discussions. When I started I spent the first week or so meeting everyone, chatting about the good and the bad stuff and getting familiar with the equipment and processes; making mental notes of any issues alomng the way then typing them up at a late...

Re: Behavioural Safety systems - set up and options
Another possible good starting point is for the workers to complete a Safety Climate Survey - think you can get these off the HSE or HSL and you could adapt to your Site as you see necessary. Give you some ideas for improving things. We did the Climate Survey initailly and also got an external Consu...
