HSfB Noticeboard |
Welcome, we hope this issue finds you safe and well.
One of the main objectives for HSfB in 2009 is to improve our newsletter delivery and newsletter content. This can only be done by listening to your opinions.
To do this, we will be upgrading our newsletter delivery software which gives us much greater control of the way we manage the content and items you are really interested in, or not as the case may be.
You may have been aware that we asked for volunteers to help us try out the new software, more information on that can be found on our forums here:
Volunteers needed, can you help?
The software trial is now complete and from March this year we will be using iContact to manage this newsletter. The only way this may affect you is if your email software doesn't recognise the new 'from' email address when we send the next issue. So, if you don't see Issue 75 in your inbox on Sunday 1 March, please check your email spam box and add us to your 'safe sender' list.
Are you a winner?
Draw 4 has now taken place and one lucky winner picked at random has the chance to accept six NEBOSH past papers/examiner's reports from the NEBOSH Shop. Alternatively, the winner can choose from guides and/or examiner's reports up to the value of £36.
See our dedicated prize draw section below to see if you are a winner!
Good luck, you just never know, you could win a prize just by reading this newsletter!

Since the launch of the audit of every download available on HSfB, progress has been extraordinary!
Nearly all of the 'Downloads' section of the site has been reviewed for accuracy and all amendments so far have been recorded. The next step for this area is to make the necessary changes to individual downloads and update the files on the servers.
The 'Revision' section of the site has yet to be reviewed.
Thank you very much to those who have taken part in the audit so far, and don't forget you can still be part of the audit team, it's not too late!
If you would like to be part of the audit team, please have a read here for instructions.
You can view the progress of the audit in the new dedicated forum section here - HSfB Site Audit.

What makes you a good safety person?
"Guys,
Am really sorry if i'm posting this in the wrong place! but wasn't sure where else to post it, and my question is for a good reason, not just random.
I've been with my present company for a year, working in 2 different contracts within the company, their separate philosophies (spelling!)on how to handle health & safety in the workplace is very different even though they are both supposed to work to the same procedures. I am extremley unhappy with the way things are run and am therefore leaving! have a very good job to go to, which I went through rigorous interviews etc to get, and know that health and safety is their number 1 concern and priority in absolutely everything they do.
What worries me is that my confidence has been knocked that badly here that I feel maybe it's me! maybe i'm the rubbish one.
My question is, what makes a good H&S person?"
PAT testing AGAIN
"Ok i seem to remember a post some time ago about PAT testing and somebody said that it was not law, can we get a definitive answer on this?
We were going through our annual PAT testing last week and the PAT tester said it was law and our maintenance guy said it was too and showed me a paragraph out of the electricity regs which was actually a quote out of the PUWER regs.
He then went on to say that it is now law that fixed machinery have to be tested too which means disconnecting the machine which takes about an hour to do. Does anybody know anything about this too as the costs involved are massive yet our tester said that he is just doing a visual test."
Glove contamination
"I have some guys where I work who have had a reaction to a chemical we use for rust prevention. The designated PPE is very good whilst they are wearing it but it is suspected that they are getting the chemical all over their hands when they are taking their gloves off. Is there a method of glove removal or special gloves which could prevent this?"
