10 September 2004 - Young Driver of the Year Competition from RoSPA

This year's Young Driver of the Year competition has begun taking applications from entrants aged between 17 - 24 in an attempt to encourages young people to become more aware and responsible whilst driving.

17 - 24 year old drivers are invited to register for one of the eight regional heats throughout August and early October.   In order to make it to the finals, entrants must compete in a regional heat and prove they are one of the top five in their region, the final 40 will then compete at Silverstone on Sunday 17th October.

The five winners from each regional heat will be rewarded on the day with their certificates, with the overall winner of each heat receiving the Catherine Kenyon Trust Regional Winners Trophy and savings on car insurance with a CIS Insurance voucher worth £250.   The overall winner will be awarded the coveted Catherine Kenyon Trust Young Driver of the Year Award, with the chance to gain a National B Competition Licence, issued by the Motor Sports Association and take part in the Uniroyal Team Challenge.   They will also receive discount on their insurance premium.

The competition is supported by Uniroyal, CIS, Silverstone and Toyota GB in association with The Catherine Kenyon Trust.   The organisers are looking for a safe, well-planned and well-executed drive and to see that entrants are confident and competent on all types of roads.

Last years winner, Craig Shaw, aged 18 from Hereford commented:

"I've always loved driving and as soon as I saw the Uniroyal Team, Challenge car, I knew I had to drive it.   Racing at Donington - it really was a dream come true! If you think you could be No.1 then why not show the rest how good U R?"
