A seminar by the Royal Society for the
Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) will be held at the Marriott Forest of Arden
Hotel, Warwickshire, on 8 November 2004, which will inform businesses of the
benefits of full investigations of any accidents or incidents occurring in
the workplace.
Any business involved in risk management and development of good health and
safety practice within the workplace will benefit from this seminar.
It will be informative for people such as chief executives, heath and safety
professionals, risk managers, safety representatives, human resource
managers and emergency service investigators.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) published new guidance in July 2004,
which was aimed at businesses to review how they comply with their duties of
investigating and how they are learning from accidents and incidents within
their workplace.
Some of the speakers attending the seminar include the following:
-
Jonathan Russell, Head of Enforcement Policy
Branch, HSE
-
John Kingston of Noordwijk Risk Initiative
Foundation
-
Simon McDermott-Brown, Director Safety
Practice, Quo Behavioural Systems
-
business leaders who have experienced the
benefits of thorough accident investigation
Mr. Roger Bibbings, RoSPA Occupational Safety
Adviser commented:
“Many businesses are still not gaining
maximum benefit from their approach to the investigation of accidents and
incidents.
As a result, they are not learning
the lessons which could improve their overall management of health and
safety.
Professional investigation can yield
huge value, particularly by pinpointing areas for change and development,
thus cutting future casualties, costs and appearances in court.
We hope the seminar will inform, challenge
and motivate people to refocus on accidents and incidents as valuable
opportunities for safety change”.
