26 October 2004 - HSC Launch 6 Week Consultation on 2 Metre Rule for Work at Height Regulations

The Health and Safety Commission (HSC) has launched a 6 week consultation on the Work at Height Regulations with regards to the 2 metre rule within the construction industry.

There have already been responses by 750 people and organisations, but as there may be implications to other stakeholders outwith the construction industry, an extension to the consultation is being provided in order to gather all viewpoints before the HSC make their final decision.

The consultation period is from Monday 25 October 2004 until Friday 3 December 2004 and results presented on 7 December 2004 to the HSC for their decision.

Mr Bill Callaghan, Chair of the HSC commented:

"There has already been extensive consultation on these Regulations, although not on this particular point and because it may have implications for our stakeholders generally, we felt it was important to seek their views now on this issue.

"We have already written to the 750 people and organisations who responded to our original consultation but we also want to make sure that everyone who has a view has the opportunity to tell us about it".

Mr Callaghan also added:

"The Commission is keen to address this issue and make its recommendations to Ministers by Christmas. This is why the consultation period lasts only six weeks, ending 3 December 2004."
