18 October 2004 - HSE Strategic Planning to be More Transparent

The Health and Safety Executives (HSE) strategic planning for their horizon scanning process will now be more transparent for the public's scrutiny and comment.

A website has been created by the HSE, which explains the aim and the objectives of horizon scanning and will cover a wide range of developments, which include the following:

  • technology
  • the workplace (industry)
  • socio-economic trends that affect the labour market
  • the UK political agenda
  • the European Union; and
  • international developments (globalisation)

The aim is one of anticipating systematically, identification and preparation for new or changing risks and consideration of the implications on new and emerging issues,  which it may have on resources and their distribution.

The horizon scanning  will be openly available, subject to review and used in the HSC's strategic priorities of development, in order to keep ahead of the health and safety requirements within the workplace.   The new website area can be accessed by clicking the following link:  Horizon Scanning - Future health and safety issues
