17 October 2004 - Non-Agricultural and Biocide Pesticide Pages on HSE Website

Within the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) website are pages on non-agricultural pesticide and biocides controls. Non-agricultural pesticides and biocide regulations are authorised by the HSE within the UK.

Biocides are used in the controlling of unwanted organisms, such as fungi, bacteria and viruses.  The intention of biocides is to either control or kill these harmful to humans bacteria, by chemical or biological means.

The biocides pages within the HSE website give information on the following:

  • The European Biocidal Products Directive (BPD) and how it works
  • The UK legislation (the Biocidal Products Regulations) and HSE’s role
  • The application process for Annex I listing of the BPD and product
  • The application process for Annex I listing of the BPD and product authorisation in the UK

Non-agricultural pesticides are used to control or destroy pests, such as rodents, antifouling etc and is also used in wood preservatives and insecticides for public hygiene use.

The pesticide pages within the website provide information on the following:

  • The national regulatory scheme in Great Britain (the Control of Pesticides Regulations 1986, as amended) and HSE’s role within it.
  • The process for applying for an approval of a non-agricultural pesticide
