12 October 2004 - New HSE Web Area for Health and Safety in Small Businesses

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) have provided, within their website, comprehensive areas of support for both new and established small businesses.

There are many areas for small businesses, detailed within the pages, which are aimed at helping small businesses look after their health and safety requirements.

For the new businesses, there are 10 actions, which must be taken to meet health and safety requirements, which can also benefit established small businesses, by allowing them to review their health and safety policy making sure that they are still effective.

The 10 actions which must be taken to conform with health and safety laws are:
  • Provision of Risk Assessments
  • Health and safety policy
  • Employers liability compulsory insurance
  • Free health and safety training for employees
  • Competent advice on health and safety within the workplace
  • Provision of basic health and safety and welfare needs for employees
  • Consult workers on health and safety within the workplace
  • Health and safety law posters to be displayed
  • Reporting of work related accidents
  • Register with HSE or local authority
