9 November 2004 - New Research Report by HSE on Drivers Perceptions of Safe Delivery Sites

RR 276 - Safe sites:  Drivers perceptions

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) have produced a new research report on drivers perceptions of safety on delivery and collection sites.   The report is the result of commissioned research, by the HSE, as they had concerns for the drivers due to the frequency of accidents within delivery and collection sites.

The research undertaken by Partnership Sourcing Ltd (PSL), was targeted within the logistic sector and provided questionnaires in eight key areas with ticked boxes, providing graded responses, which were then used in face-to-face meetings with drivers followed by discussions of wider views and opinions.

The main aims of the commissioned study were as follows:

  • Collect the views of drivers and their perceived areas of danger on sites visited.
  • Identify areas which may benefit from an awareness campaign.
  • Identification of areas with most concern, which would benefit from action being taken for improvement of health and safety to drivers.

As reported on our HSfB news area on 5th November 2004, many of the problems associated with delivery and collection accidents are due to lack of communication, which the HSE acknowledge.
