5 November 2004 - New Guidance by HSE on Delivering Safely

Delivering Safely:  Co-operating to prevent workplace vehicle accidents.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) have introduced a guidance within their website, providing information on the need for co-operation between suppliers, carriers, and recipients of goods delivered or received.   There are many potential hazards within this area, but the information sheet provided by the HSE, highlight the vehicles involved, as often the drivers of the vehicles are the victims of incidents.

Within the guidance, there are three general principles highlighted, which suppliers, carriers and recipients should follow.   They are:

  • send out safety information on deliveries and collections to other parties in the delivery chain
  • request safety information on deliveries and collections from other parties in the delivery chain
  • agree a safe delivery plan

The HSE have stated within their guidance, that all parties involved in deliveries should, so far as reasonably practicable, exchange and agree information to ensure goods can be delivered and collected safely.
