3 November 2004 - UK Stress Awareness Day

As a follow up to our news story of yesterday on the TUC's biennial survey, Stress in the Workplace, which is part of the Working Well Together (WWT) campaign, we are happy to report the International Stress Management Association UK (ISMAUK) have organised a stress awareness day, today 3 November 2004, with events planned around the country on the theme of Working Together to Reduce Stress at Work.

In the 2003 campaign, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and LA Fitness health club chain supported ISMAUK.   Both are doing so again this year, with the main focus being the HSE's new management standards and toolkit on work-related stress.

Some key messages on stress, by the HSE are as follows:

  • Work-related stress is a serious problem for organisations. Tackling it effectively can result in significant benefits for organisations.
  • There are things organisations can do to prevent and control work-related stress.
  • The law requires organisations to take action.
