27 May 2005 - New Guide Available on Fire
Safety for Hotels
Navigation

A new guide for fire safety in the hotel industry has been
published by the Building Research Establishment (BRE) providing help and advice
for hotel managers and staff.
The Office of the Deputy Prime Minister will publish a detailed
guidance later this year, simplifying many existing Acts and Regulations for
England and Wales. With this in mind, the new guide by the BRE has
been designed to complement the forthcoming simplified Act.
Information within the new BRE guide is as follows:
-
Introduction to fire safety and the law.
-
How fires start and spread.
-
Fire prevention.
-
Basics of how to build a fire safety culture.
-
How to carry out fire risk assessments.
-
Hotel fire safety features, including a fire safety checklist.
When the new simplified Legislation is introduced later this
year, it will no longer include the issue of fire certificates from the fire
service. Hotel owners and managers will be placed in the
"responsible" person category.
