A revised information sheet on the prevention of slips and trips
in kitchens and food service industry is available from the Health and Safety
Executive (HSE), in the form of a pdf file.
The information sheet is mainly for employers, but safety reps
and employees will also find it very useful.
It covers areas such as the following:

Floor contamination ie: Water/food particles.
-
Safe housekeeping.
-
Advice on planning ahead for busy periods when slips and trips
are most likely to occur.
-
Cleaning of spillages immediately.
-
Selection of safe footwear.
-
Selection of correct safe floor surfaces and the correct
cleaning required.
-
Checking the levels of floors.
It is to be remembered that the HSE provide a free downloadable
Slip Assessment Tool (SAT) available from the HSE website.
