5 May 2004 - Free Asbestos Seminar |

|
A free asbestos seminar will be held in Worcestershire this month on Monday 10 May. The HSE and Wychavon District Council are holding a joint free seminar for businesses in the Wychavon district which aims to raise awareness of the new 'Duty to Manage Asbestos in Non-Domestic Premises', which comes into force later this month. The half-day seminar venue is the Civic Centre, Queen Elizabeth Drive, Pershore, on Monday 10th May, 9.30am-12.30pm. Under this new duty, all persons who own or manage a workplace must be able to demonstrate that they have taken appropriate steps to identify any asbestos in their premises, and also be able to show how they will manage the risks to the health of maintenance workers and others. If you would like to attend this seminar can ring Bernie Parry at HSE’s office on 01905 743600 to book a spot. Jane Lassey, Principal HSE Inspector, Worcestershire commented: “Whilst there is, unfortunately, nothing we can do to help those who have been exposed to asbestos in the past, we can and must do everything in our power to prevent any further exposure to asbestos. Unless the risks from asbestos in buildings are managed effectively today, we will not be free from the misery and suffering that asbestos-related diseases cause in the future. In due course, we will be carrying out inspections to check on how companies are meeting their duty to manage risks from exposure to asbestos.” |
