Safety in Design (SiD), a non-profit company supported by the Health and Safety Executive, has recently launched its website, offering information on the health and safety aspects of building design. The site which was recently featured in BBC news reports, was designed by a 17-year-old schoolboy, Ben Slater, who was commissioned to create the site for SiD while seeking work experience. The main reason for the site is to provide benchmarked standards for knowledge and competence for designers. The website offers a range of practical guides for designers, produced by the Construction Industry Council (CIC) and SiD. Ben Slater, 17-year old Safety in Design (SiD) website designer commented: “I have thoroughly enjoyed working on the SiD website, as it gives me another chance to practice my web design skills which is so hard to have the opportunity to do these days. It is also nice to see them shown off nationally and possibly internationally, but this project has also opened my eyes to the problems designers face in making sure everything is safe for the public to use. Therefore I felt very honoured being able to say that I completed the site and will hopefully help my web design career in future!” Safety in Design (SiD) can be found here: http://www.safetyindesign.org/ |
