22 March 2004 - Potters Bar Incident - HSE now leads investigation |
||
|
HSE and British Transport Police (BTP) officials met on Thursday 18 March with bereaved relatives and some of the inured persons in the May 2002 Potters Bar rail accident that claimed 7 lives, held a progress meeting of the joint investigation into the circumstances of the tragedy. The officials informed them that HSE were now leading the investigation as the emphasis was now on management systems and procedures which was the knowledge domain of its specialist investigators. The HSE website states: "If evidence emerges of a serious criminal offence (other than a health and safety offence) the HSE, BTP and Crown Prosecution Service will consider whether or not it would be appropriate for the BTP to reassume primacy". Main facts on this subject can be found on the HSE website here. |
