3 March 2004 - The HSE Extends Its Sympathies to Morcambe Bay Cockle-Pickers

This tragic event has sparked a huge amount of publicity and public awareness of how things drastically need changed in this country to protect certain workers.   It is very sad that it takes something like this to start the ball rolling, but nevertheless the HSE has issued a statement this morning extending its sympathies to the families of those lost.

This statement issued from the HSE web site:  "Our aims are to ensure we establish the factors which led to it; to use the law to hold to account anyone who has put people at risk by breaking the law; and to identify lessons to help protect workers in Britain in future".

Read the full statement here.

The HSE have also developed an emerging set of guidelines for safe working in estuaries and tidal areas, they can be found here.
