28 June 2005 - Homes Safety Event in Ipswich

Navigation

A free event to provide operators and managers of care homes advice on how to reduce the risks to injuries will be held on Wednesday 6th July at the Homes Safety Event at Suffolk College, Ipswich.

Information will be provided by:

  • The Health and Safety Executive (HSE)

  • The Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI)

  • Suffolk Fire and Rescue

  • The Health Protection Agency

  • Local authorities

  • East Anglian Ambulance Trust

  • The local Primary Care Trusts

  • Social Care

  • Ipswich Hospital NHS Trust Dieticians

An HSE inspector commented:

"The main aim of the event will be to provide a coherent approach to the regulatory environment in which care homes operate, and will focus on issues affecting both employees and residents.

"One particular area being covered is that of back injuries caused, or made worse, by work, and the event forms part of a national 'Backs! 2005' campaign, an initiative aiming to reduce instances of back injury at work.

"The HSE campaign will help encourage innovative solutions to this problem, which causes pain and suffering to a large number of people at work and results in substantial costs to businesses from people taking time off for back injuries."

Two sessions will be held:  9:00am and 1.00pm
