14 June 2005 - Construction SHAD Takes Place in Cardiff

Navigation

A free Construction Safety and Health Awareness Day (SHAD) is taking place in Cardiff at Glamorgan Cricket Club, Sophia Gardens, on 12th July.   The special Working Well Together event will provide smaller construction companies an opportunity to find out about the latest developments in improving health and safety.

The event is targeting small contractors employing fewer than 15 people, sole traders and the self-employed.

The event is the result of a partnership between the Federation of Master Builders, local authorities, and large construction companies working in the region.

Advice will be given on:

  • good housekeeping

  • decent welfare facilities

  • falls from height

  • manual handling

  • transport and asbestos

HSE Principal Inspector commented:

"Last year seven people died in the construction sector in Wales. This is a terrible waste of life which could be avoided. On average 75% of all people killed in construction work for companies employing fewer than 15 people. That is why we want small enterprises to take action to improve their health and safety performance. The emphasis of the day is very much about giving practical advice. To show how risks on site can be eliminated, minimised and controlled in a practical, simple, no nonsense way. It is about sharing experiences, best practice and learning from each other. We are keen to provide help for the industry, by the industry."

If your organisation would like to book a place, you should call 02920 577711.
