28 June 2004 - Survey Published on Radio and TV Transmitter Waves

Results of a survey published by The National Radiological Protection Board (NRPB) show that radio wave exposure from radio and TV transmitters may cause harm as with mobile 'phone base stations.

The survey took into account houses, workplaces, schools and public utilities, by means of regions within these categories. Their findings were then put into percentages according to the guidelines within the International Commission on Non Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP). These guidelines are recognised within the United Kingdom.

The MRPB Chairman, Sir William Stewart commented:

"Some people worry about the radio waves from mobile 'phone masts and we want to provide as much clear information as we can on this topic. Many of the concerns can relate to planning matters rather than scientific and health issues. This is a matter we expect to return to when NRPB issues a statement on mobile 'phones and health later this year."
