28 June 2004 - HSE's Sound Solutions Publication - Noise Case Studies

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has previously published its HSG138: Sound Solutions — Techniques to Reduce Noise at Work (1995), which has been highlighted on the HSE web site with some examples of key noise case studies, with an industry wide application

The key problems listed on the web site are:

  • removing jet noise

  • isolating a hydraulic guillotine

  • pneumatic impact press noise reduction

  • pneumatic squeeze presses

  • machining alternator castings

  • material change block making

  • reducing foundry pipe spinning noise

  • reducing noise from pneumatic screwdrivers

  • reducing air exhaust noise in vertical grinders

  • use of absorption in a noise control programme

  • high-speed press noise and modifying safety guarding

  • controlling noise in a press shop

  • rubber damping landing chutes

  • damping compounds on heavy plates.
