30 June 2004 - Differing Priorities Between Occupational Physicians and Customers

A new research report has been published by the University of Glasgow for EEF - the Manufacturers' Organisation and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), which tries to establish the priorities of UK employers, employees and their representatives regarding the competencies required from occupational physicians.

The report - RR247 - Competencies of occupational physicians The customer’s perspective, aimed to:

  • establish the priorities of UK employer and employee representatives regarding the competencies they require from occupational physicians

  • explore the reasons for variations of the priorities in different groups

  • explore the views of employers and employees on health and work, and the level of occupational medical support required

  • make recommendations for occupational medicine training curricula in consideration of these findings.

The report shows that the competencies in which occupational physicians are trained were considered important but the customer priorities were different from those of the physicians.

The report can be found here.
