12 July 2005 - Sleepwalkers Bed of Concrete A Chilling Tale

Navigation

At the end of last month, a young 15 year old teenage girl from Dulwich in London was found fast asleep on a crane within a building site close to her home, after she embarked on a sleepwalking journey.

The young girl climbed the ladder of the crane, walked across the narrow metal beam and completed her task by curling up on top of the concrete counterweight 40 meters above ground level.   She was spotted by a passer-by.

A 2-hour rescue operation was put into place by Police and Firefighters where they successfully rescued the young girl and took her to hospital for a precautionary check-up.

No injuries were sustained and the girl was sent home in the early hours of the morning probably without the need for sleeping pill medication.

This type of incident may pose pertinent questions as to why access was not restricted by adequate controls in the first place.
