A
publication, by the Health and Safety Commission (HSC) which provides
statistics and trends of fatalities and injuries within the retail industry
is now available - Key Statistics: Workplace Fatalities and Injuries -
Retail Industry.
Within the publication of the trends in statistics within the retail
industry are the figures for 1996/7 to 2002/3, which give the injuries
incurred for the United Kingdom (UK), with the fatal injuries being recorded
within the period 1993/4 to 2002/3. The 2002/3 figures given are only
provisional.

workplace injury within the retail injury is included within the report, for
example:

Summary of
the key statistics in the HSC's' publication:

In the
10-year period to 2002/03, employers reported 18 fatalities to retail
employees
-
The
commonest kinds of accident were due to being struck by a moving vehicle and
falls from height
-
During the
same period, there were 22 reported fatalities to members of the public on
retail premises
-
The most
common kinds of accidents were falls from height (seven), slipping and
tripping on the same level (five), and being struck by a moving or falling
object (five)
-
With
regard to non-fatal injuries, in 2002/03 employers reported 2299 major
injuries and 10,559 over-3-day injuries to employees in retail premises.
