21 July 2004 - Prescription Changes for Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome (HAVS)

The Industrial Injuries Advisory Council have recommended a change to the prescription of Prescribed Disease A11 (PD A11) to include severe sensorineural symptoms (altered sensation in the fingers such as tingling and numbness), even if the vascular symptoms within the commonly known Vibration White Finger (VWF), caused by prolonged use of hand-held high frequency vibrating or percussive tools, are not present.

The Department for Work and Pensions will implement the changes to the revised prescription for PD A11 to now take into account severe sensorineural symptoms.

The change in prescription to the PA A11 will now mean that sufferers of severe sensorineural symptoms will be able to claim Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit.
