31 January 2005 - Second Work Your Proper Hours Day 25 February 2005

A Work Your Proper Hours Day organised by the Trades Union Congress (TUC) is planned for Friday 25 February 2005.

As with the first Work Your Proper Hours Day, in January 2004, the TUC are calling for workers to take a "proper" lunch-break away from workstations and to leave at the correct time.

The TUC highlights the British long-hours culture is bad for our health, causing anxiety and stress-related problems, which in turn creates difficulties in relationships.   The caring of children is made more difficult and causes tired and burnt-out staff in businesses.

Figures from the TUC show over 5 million workers in the UK do unpaid overtime, providing employers with £23 billion free work per year.
