24 January 2005 - Update on London Health
and Safety Awareness Day
Navigation

As we at HSfB reported on 12 January 2005 (Health
and Safety Awareness Day Forthcoming in London), a Health and Safety
Awareness Day was planned for the London area, where small businesses of less
than 50 people could be provided with information and advice as to their health
and safety needs and requirements.
More than 160 businesses attended the event, where they were
given practical demonstrations, guidance and training on areas such as working
at height, slips trips and falls, manual handling and workplace transport.
Head of Operations of the HSE London commented:
"By getting out and meeting small firms at events like this
we can give advice that is directly relevant to their business needs.
"In the long run health and safety plays a vital role in the
profitability of a company and can even give it that competitive edge, by
reducing employee absence through sickness and accidents.
"The companies who have come along today have shown they are
committed to effectively managing health and safety in their workplaces. In the
long term this can lead to benefits such as saving money, improving
productivity, raising morale and helping create a happier, healthier workforce."
Whilst, Chiswick Glass, one of the companies who attended the
event said:
"I found the day very useful and informative. The structure
of the day, where everyone rotated in different groups, was a really good idea.
The session on falls from height was extremely useful and I was able to take
back the knowledge to my own company, where some of our glazers work at height."
The next event providing similar information for small
businesses in East London, will take place at Stratford Old Town Hall on 18
March 2005. Bookings for this event can be made by telephoning the
following: 020 7556 2115.
