21 January 2005 - HSE Launch Free SME
Indicator Tool
Navigation

A free tool, the Health and Safety Performance Indicator,
available from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) website, is now available
to Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SME's), offering the ability to track and
assess performance of their own health and safety.
The Indicator will provide information to SME's in areas such as
the following:
-
assessing regular performance
-
providing information for insurance companies to calculate
insurance premiums
-
providing comparisons across wide areas within SME's.
The Indicator tool asks a series of questions, calculated on a 0
to 10 variance, with 10 being the best score. However, it does not
address some hazards which industries encounter. Therefore, a
suggestion by the HSE is one that they would ask trade associations to consider
developing such an indicator for their own members.
The completion of the Indicator can be made anonymously by
businesses and their results can provide them with the following information:
-
get a measure of how they are performing
-
see areas where they might want to improve
-
benchmark against others.
A further Indicator, Corporate Health and Safety Performance
Indicator (CHaSPI) is currently being developed by the HSE for larger
companies, which will be available from the HSE website from May 2005.
The Indicator tool can be accessed by clicking the following:
