Navigation

Major offshore injury statistics for the period 1 April 2003 to
31 March 2004 have shown a significant drop, according to the Health and Safety
Executive's (HSE's) latest publication "Offshore health and safety statistics
for 2003/04".
This is the fourth statistics report from the HSE's Hazardous
Installations Directorate (HIB) for offshore diseases, injury and incidents and
the eighth under the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences
Regulations 1995 (RIDDOR 95).
A short breakdown of the main incident percentages contained in
the report are as follows:
-
48 major injury incidents reported, which is a 25% fall from
2002/03.
-
102 over 3 day incidents reported, which is 17 less than
2002/03.
-
543 dangerous occurrences reported, which is 92 less than
2002/03.
-
13 work related diseases were reported, which is 6 less than
2003/04.
-
3 fatalities were reported in 2003/04 compared to none in
2002/03.
When looking at the above figures, consideration must be taken
into account of the offshore workforce having now decreased by 1,826 since
2002/03.
