21 February 2005 - HSE School Safety
Programme to Visit South West England
Navigation

Swindon is the next area to benefit from the Health and Safety
Executive's (HSE's) school safety programme, which will take place on Thursday
24 February 2005.
The HSE team involved in the schools programme will visit 21
schools in the Swindon area with the backing of Swindon Borough Council.
They will be ensuring safe systems are in place for the protection of school
children, pedestrians, vehicle control within school areas and contractors
implementation of risk control practices.
Health and Safety Executive Inspector and Team Leader commented:
"We are really looking to make sure that there are safe
systems and procedures in place to reduce the risk of accidents at schools. As
well as monitoring on-site transport and pedestrian activities, we will be
looking at visitors, such as contractors, in particular those working at height.
We are looking to help those schools that might be failing to improve and avoid
accidents."
The Director of Education for Swindon Borough Council said:
"Swindon Borough Council welcomes the opportunity to work
with the Health and Safety Executive on this inspection of Swindon schools. I am
sure that the inspection team will identify many examples of good practice in
the borough and I also expect it to highlight areas where the council needs to
do further work. We will take any recommendations and implement them through the
extended schools agenda to improve the learning environment and opportunities
for the community."
