10 December 2004 - Second Work Your Proper Hours Day Set for February 25 2005

The second Work Your Proper Hours Day comes round again on Friday 25 February 2005, when the Trades Union Congress (TUC) call for workers who work unpaid hours to arrive on time, leave on time and take their full lunch break.

As with last Februarys' campaign, the TUC have chosen this day next February after using the official Labour Force Survey, which is a measure of unpaid overtime, in order to make the decision as to when the Work Your Proper Hours Day should fall.

The request from the TUC, for workers who do unpaid work, is to urge them not to arrive early, leave late, nor work through their lunch break on the designated day of Friday 25 February 2005.   They even go as far as to ask bosses to take their staff out for lunch, coffee or a cocktail to thank them for their hard work and extra commitment.

An intensive P.R. campaign will be run by the TUC in the run up to the Work Your Proper Hours Day, which will be an annual event.

Mr. Nigel Stanley, TUC Head of Campaigns said:

"It’s an ideal opportunity for leisure, arts and the hospitality industry to introduce special promotions on that day, and join the celebration. This is not a confrontational campaign, but we do work the longest hours in Europe. Every so often even people who love their jobs and are happy to put in extra hours want to be told they are not taken for granted. And if it makes people and employers think a bit harder about organising a better work-life balance, so much the better".
