25 August 2004 - First of Construction Safety and Health Awareness Days Set for October

The first in a series of Construction Safety and Health Awareness Days (SHADs) will take place at Haydock Park on Friday 8th October, 2004.

These nationwide SHADs are part of the Working Well Together (WWT) programme.

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) have invited smaller construction firms, with delegates from around 200 North West England firms expected to attend the first of these awareness days in October.

The intention of this programme is to target small contractors employing less than 15 people, self-employed and sole traders, who together make up 83% of the industry.

The construction industry itself can take this opportunity to advise on key safety issues and can offer practical advice on how others within the business can avoid risky situations on construction sites.

For further information on bookings, contact Martin Heywood at HSE's offices at Grove House, Skerton Rd, Old Trafford, Manchester, telephone: 0161 952 8200, fax: 0161 952 8206, or E-mail to nw.external.relations@hse.gsi.gov.uk.
