10 August 2004 - HSE Supporting East Anglian White Van Roadshow

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is supporting the East Anglian Working Well Together (WWT) campaign, which will see the White Van Roadshow travelling the region in a bid to raise the awareness of smaller construction sites with fewer than 50 workers, as to the dangers and how to deal with them.

The WWT group, the construction industry and the HSE have formed a partnership and each have representatives within the group.

The group members of the WWT in East Anglia include, Taylor Woodrow, Kier & Jackson Construction, Pretty's Solicitors, Barnes Group, Countryside Properties, Bovis Lendlease, UCATT, Knight Group, Persimmon Homes, Tamdown, RG Carter, CITB, Contain, Proflat Roofing, Maygurney, Bizz Safe and John F Hunt.

The initial tour of the White Van Roadshow lasts all of this week, with further tours being planned each month until the end of this year.

A ten minute Health and Safety video, showing the greatest risks on smaller sites (the High 5) and knowledge on how to stay safe and healthy is the feature of the roadshow.

This campaign by the WWT has over 4,000 participating organisations and is the United Kingdoms' largest construction Health and Safety campaign.

Patricia Dair, HSE Principal Inspector commented:

"HSE is delighted to support the East Anglia WWT group's regional initiative. We want everyone in the industry, whether they work on a large or small site, to be aware of how to stay healthy and safe on site. The White Van campaign is a step in the right direction."
