20 April 2005 - HSE Inspectors to Visit
East England
Navigation

Health and Safety Inspectors and Fenland District Council
Environmental Health Officers (EHO's) will join forces to visit manufacturing
industries on 21 April 2005, within the Wisbech and Fenland areas, where they
will be concentrating on workplace transport and working at height.
The inspectors, however, may also visit construction sites and
commercial and industrial premises.
Although the main focus will be on working at height and
workplace transport, they will also be looking at management of health and
safety within other areas such as slips, trips, manual handling and occupational
asthma.
Advice and guidance is the main focus of the inspections,
allowing employers to correct any problem areas, although enforcement action may
also be deemed to be necessary where management of risks is poor.
HM Principal Inspector said of the forthcoming visits:
"We will be concentrating on the two areas that cause the
most serious accidents at work - workplace transport and working at height. We
will also be looking at the control of occupational asthma, slips, trips and
manual handling risks amongst other topics. I advise all businesses in the area
to assess their health and safety standards, not just for the risks we are
targeting, but for all their activities. Poor health and safety standards at
work not only put workers at risk of serious injury, but can also seriously
damage profits."
Fenland District Councils' Head of Environmental Health
commented:
"My team and I look forward to working in partnership with
the HSE during this initiative and in the future, working together for the
benefit of those living and working in the Fenland area."
