Navigation

Remember the International Workers Memorial Day 2005, which
takes place each year in remembrance of those who have been either injured or
killed due to accidents in the workplace.
This year, there will be a service within Ripon Cathedral, at
12 noon, on Thursday 28 April 2005.
Supported by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and Trades
Union Congress (TUC), the memorial service is open to everyone, with the main
attention being on family and friends of those who have been injured or killed
as a result of workplace accidents.
There will also be services held on the 28 April 2005 at the
following venues:
-
The War Memorial, Pelham Road, Immingham at 10.30am.
-
Nun's Corner, Grimsby at 1.00pm.
-
Pier Gardens, Alexander Road, Cleethorpes at 3.00pm.
A candlelit vigil will take place outside Rochdale Town Hall on
28 April 2005, commencing at 8.00pm, where Rochdale residents will remember
those who died of asbestos related diseases throughout the World.
The theme for the Rochdale Memorial Service is one of
"Prevention through employer accountability". As once home of
the biggest asbestos factory in the World, Rochdale residents are concerned over
the proposed building of 600 houses and a Children's Nursery on the old asbestos
factory site.
Supported by Greater Manchester Hazards Centre, campaigners are
pressing for proof of safety to the community of decontamination of the site,
before and after rebuilding.
