30 April 2004 - One-Day Awareness Course on Radiofrequency (RF) Hazards on Roofs

The National Radiological Protection Board (NRPB) is holding a one-day awareness course on radiofrequency (RF) hazards at Chilton, Oxfordshire on 17 June 2004.

These hazards are most often related to the activities of laboratory personnel and aerial riggers, more recently is has come to light that others such as general maintenance personnel are required to work on roofs where telecommunications' antennae and microwave link dishes are installed.

The course is aimed at any person working near sources of RF exposure, management and health and safety personnel seeking incorporation of RF into their safety and risk assessments.

The course will bring to attention:

  • the nature of hazards associated with RF sources

  • adverse health effects

  • recent changes in NRPB advice and proposed legislation

  • practical guidance on exposure and risk management

  • procedures providing for safe working practice .
