16 April 2004 - HSE to Launch Major Consultation on Proposed Stress Management Standards

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is to launch a major consultation on its proposed stress management standards on 25 May.

Chris Rowe, the head of the psychosocial issues policy unit at the HSE,  explained the consultation aimed to raise awareness of the standards:

The HSE has identified six key "stressors" against which each benchmark is set:

  • demands at work

  • control

  • support

  • relationships

  • role

  • change.

These benchmarks concern the proportion of employees that need to be satisfied at the way each workplace stressor is handled by a company.

The HSE states:

"The Standards are being prepared to provide a yardstick against which organisations can measure their progress in tackling work-related stress and can target action where it is most needed."

The draft standards can be accessed here.
