27 September 2005 - HSE Getting it Right Advice for School Trips

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) have provided a webpage, "Getting it right",  for teachers and anyone who has a role to play in educational outdoor visits for school children such as parents, youth organisations, leaders, local education authorities etc.

Highlighted on the webpage is the tragic accident of 10 year old Max Palmer from Lancashire.   Young Max was "plunge pooling" whilst on a school trip to Glenridding Beck when he found he was in difficulty.  Attempts were made to rescue Max, but tragically were unsuccessful.

The webpage is full of information on the management of outdoor visits, with many links to organisations providing their own guidance on how to keep children safe and enjoy the many benefits from such visits.
